"I endeavor to draw connections between the vast time-space of the ancient and the present by combining patterns and shapes that arc between then and now. The single mark, the seed form that is the basis of many of the drawings, is meant to delineate a specific, miniscule structure within this frenetic landscape. It is a reminder that each whole entity, no matter how complex, comprises much smaller entities, whole in themselves, which is the basis of all existence. In much of the work, I echo this idea through myriad patterns that make up the cohesive whole, as each design has a reference point, whether it be historical, scientific, representational, or entirely imagined." With a background is in electrical engineering, Erik started experimenting with art in 2004 after visiting the Guggenheim Musuem - NYC, and seeing Vasily Kandinsky's, "Painting With White Border".  In 2007, He quit his engineering job and moved from California to New York to pursue his interests in art. Erik describes his art as a collage of improvisational sessions mixed and layered together over the course of days, weeks, or months. The ideas and inspiration come from whatever I see and experience in everyday life. The end result is a melting pot of random thoughts, feelings, inspiration, and influences. Nicholas is an emerging multimedia artist from Georgia who has shown in local galleries there, well as in New York. "My installations have involved bands playing inside layers of clear plastic boxes that I paint then destroy with fire and blades. This symbolizes my struggle to destroy the corporations’ plastic boxes of psychosis and social conditioning that are choking our minds while the earth dies."

Nicholas' work Psychotic Pulsating Plastic Box is the second video feature on the be/dc video and music player. Please take a look! To view more images of his work click here.

"It’s rather organic – cliché, I know. Simply, I begin with a loose concept (eg censorship, religion, etc)… next I select a image of a nude which represents the loose concept (the image is either one that I’ve shot myself or pulled from Google images) …I then build around the image with what I feel works best – conceptually, aesthetically, and compositionally. Sometimes the end product is a disaster.. I finish maybe only 1 in 4 paintings. While this may be a very inefficient process it keeps me from being too anal or contrived. The key to successful art, I believe, is to have the lines far enough apart so people have an opportunity to read between them (as ‘art is in the eye (or mind) of the beholder’) but not so far as to lose the point."(sprayblog.net) See more of his works here.

"My current body of work consists of paintings of children and youth which explore the relationship between the mundane and the surreal. They realistically depict ordinary everyday moments of contemporary life which appear curiously strange when shown out of context. Although a narrative could be constructed from my work, I prefer ambiguity and do not have any specific story in mind" Katie Miller is a young artist in the Washington, DC area. She received her B.F.A from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2007. Ms. Miller creates both original fine art and custom portraits on commission. View her portfolio here!
